Clementis despatch of 13th July 1926 No.322. Your telegram of 30th August 1926.

16184/19263

New Sailors' and Soldiers' Home has proved great success especially with Navy and extension urgently needed to provide more sleeping accommodation for naval ratings. Over 36,000 men slept in Home in 1931 and many were turned away. Committee wish to launch appeal at once for funds to build extension on an adjutning area of about 3,500 square feet which is valued for sale by auction at 39,000 dollars. Committee cannot afford to buy and sale to others might ruin amenities of Home. In view of excellent work done by the Home and neod for special effort at the present time in view of the closing

that of brothels I request/authority to grant extension on the same terms as regards rent and restrictod covenant as present holding,- see enclosure to despatch referred to above. Nominal premium of one dollar.

This proposal was approved by Peel but awaited action by Committeo of the Home who now see favourable opportunity for raising funds.

Should be glad of reply by telegraph as soon as

possible.
